Advanced Placement Program

Hanover High School participates in the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program. We offer college-level classes in many disciplines, allowing students to earn possible college credit and to challenge themselves beyond the regularly prescribed college preparatory high school curriculum. Juniors and seniors comprise the bulk of our AP students, and sophomores can take US History at the AP level as part of their social studies graduation requirements, while others take STEM classes for which their teachers deem them ready. You can view all AP course descriptions in our Program of Studies below.

Advanced Placement courses involve a prescribed curriculum determined by the College Entrance Examination Board. They carry additional weight in the computing of grade point averages and are designated to be very rigorous and challenging. Students considering enrollment in one or more AP courses should speak with their guidance counselor, the AP teacher, their parents/guardians, and consult each department course description for AP courses offered before making any decisions. We want all of our students to maintain a balanced schedule, one that both challenges them and allows them to sustain the level of work that suits them best.

All students registered for AP courses are required to complete summer work prior to the start of the school year. Any student who enrolls in an AP course is also required to take the AP exam in May of the school year. The 2021-2022 fee is $95 per exam and must be paid before February 1, 2022.

Please send an email to Laura Collins, AP Coordinator, lcollins@hanoverschools.org, to request financial assistance with exam fees; your request will be kept in the strictest confidence.
