Cedar School Mini Stars Program
Program Description
The Mini Stars Program at Cedar Elementary School provides a comprehensive education in a nurturing, therapeutic classroom for students ages 3-5 with cognitive, social, emotional challenges and/or learning disabilities. The goal of this program is to provide specialized interventions and support to introduce our youngest students to the classroom. Here students are supported navigating the transitions and the social and academic components of the school environment. The class is smaller in size, with a lead teacher and several paraprofessionals or ABA tutors who provide assistance. This design enhances the students' ability to access a highly modified curriculum in a smaller setting with individualized instruction and a flexible schedule. In addition, this classroom is supported by related service providers such as the occupational therapist, the physical therapist, and the speech and language pathologists. Environmental structure and positive behavioral supports, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodology, are individualized to improve students’ ability to process and communicate information. These supports promote the cognitive development, self-regulation, social growth, and independence that these students require to be successful at the Cedar School and beyond.
